To solve the firm’s major data quality problem, Orion helped them create a single source of truth, ensuring quality data to drive better decisions and advance its digital strategy.
A global firm, recognized for its expertise in delivering comprehensive tax, audit, and advisory services, serves a diverse client base across multiple regions. The firm is committed to leveraging technology and data to drive innovation, improve client experiences, and strengthen its digital capabilities.
Challenge
The customer was facing significant data challenges that hindered its ability to advance its digital strategy. They experienced data integrity issues, duplicate client records across multiple systems, and poor data governance, making it difficult to access accurate, reliable client and prospect information.
To address these issues, the firm needed support to establish a centralized database, update their CRM system to serve as the back-end System of Record, and ensure all critical enterprise data flowed from trusted systems.
Solution
To establish a foundation for advancing their digital strategy, our team addressed their data quality problem:
- Conducted over 90 stakeholder and SME interviews to uncover pain points and desired business insights.
- Led an “Art of the Possible” workshop to define and prioritise business requirements.
- Mapped end-to-end workflows and the current technical environment to identify gaps and provide actionable recommendations.
We worked closely with the customer to deliver:
- Analysed the impact of data quality issues, including missing, inaccurate, or inaccessible information.
- Defined data integration processes to reconcile client, prospect, and opportunity information from various sources into a Single Source of Truth.
- Populated reconciled data and restricted creation of records in legacy systems, with read-only synchronisation from the central source.
- Implemented role-based access controls to allow only authorised users to create or edit client, prospect, and opportunity data.
- Established bi-directional Synchronisation for client, prospect, and related data (contacts, meetings, etc.), ensuring accurate and consistent information across all platforms.
Impact
The initiative resulted in high-quality, accurate client data with duplicate records eliminated and strong governance in place. The firm now has a centralized, trusted data foundation, supporting informed decision-making, enterprise-wide analytics, and more effective client engagement.
This foundation has enabled the firm to advance its digital strategy, streamline operations, and prepare for future initiatives, including the implementation of Microsoft Fabric Data Lake, ensuring a scalable platform for continued growth and innovation.

A single source of truth is a centralized, trusted repository that provides consistent and accurate business data across systems. It reduces duplicate records, improves data quality, and ensures teams work from the same information, making reporting, analytics, and customer management more reliable.
Data quality is essential because business decisions depend on accurate, complete, and consistent information. Poor-quality data can lead to duplicate records, reporting errors, and inefficient operations, while trusted data improves analytics, customer insights, and strategic planning across the enterprise.
Organizations reduce duplicate records by consolidating data from multiple systems into a centralized repository and applying data reconciliation processes. Establishing governance rules and restricting record creation to authorized systems also helps maintain consistent, high-quality data over time.
A business should improve data governance when inconsistent, incomplete, or duplicate data begins affecting operations or decision-making. Strong governance becomes especially important during digital transformation, CRM modernization, analytics initiatives, or when integrating multiple enterprise systems.
Role-based access improves data quality by allowing only authorized users to create, edit, or manage critical business records. This reduces accidental changes, strengthens accountability, and helps maintain accurate and consistent information across enterprise applications.
Integrating enterprise data creates a consistent view of customers, prospects, and business operations. It reduces manual reconciliation, improves reporting accuracy, enables better analytics, and helps organizations make faster, more informed decisions using trusted information.
Better data quality provides a reliable foundation for digital transformation by ensuring systems, analytics, and business processes use accurate information. Organizations can improve operational efficiency, support enterprise-wide reporting, and prepare for technologies such as modern data platforms and AI-driven analytics.
A trusted data foundation ensures that information entering a modern data platform is accurate, governed, and consistent. Cleaning and governing data before implementation improves reporting quality, simplifies integration, and enables scalable analytics without carrying existing data issues into the new platform.
