When it comes to Healthcare and Life Sciences, communication is key to patient satisfaction. Developing a web-based solution created a more open channel and improved overall efficiency for staff and patients.

The client is a leading healthcare and life sciences company based in the United States, specializing in genetic testing and diagnostics to provide personalized patient care.

Challenge

The client approached Orion with a request to develop a solution that would facilitate communication between patients and medical professionals, specifically obstetricians, transplant physicians, oncologists, and cancer researchers, including biopharmaceutical companies, and genetic laboratories. The primary focus of the project was to improve the accuracy of organ transplant rejection assessment.

One of the biggest challenges was the client’s requirement for a short time-to-market, expecting the developed features to be in production within 1 or 2 weeks.

Solution

Orion Innovation began working on a B2B web portal solution. The portal aimed to enable clinics and labs to digitally submit transplant rejection test requests, monitor their progress, and access test results. The first version of the portal was prepared by Orion in less than 3 months, leading the client to request a similar solution for an Oncology web portal. As the collaboration progressed, the team expanded from 7 to over 40 members, including UX/UI designers, frontend/backend developers, QA and test automation engineers, managers, and an analyst.

Both dashboards gave doctors and other staff fast and easy access to information, making operations more efficient. The dashboard enabled monitoring of various requests and information, user management, clinic settings, notifications, and a secure channel for results distribution.

Additionally, a separate single-page application was developed to visualize the movement of test samples within the laboratory. This application allowed for the display of monitored parameters on TV screens and desktops of laboratory personnel, facilitating frequent analysis and timely optimization.

Apart from web development services, our team also provided automation testing. In collaboration with the client’s DevOps team, we contributed to the development of a testing environment booking system. This system prevented interference in simultaneous system testing conducted by multiple engineering teams.

Technology Stack:

Impact

The introduction of the web portal allowed the client to go paperless and create an added value to the existing product. Through process automation, the client managed to significantly reduce the test turnaround time from several weeks to a few days. This resulted in reduced waiting times for patients and increased laboratory throughput, improving overall efficiency.

A healthcare web portal is a secure digital platform that allows clinics, labs, doctors, and patients to exchange information online. It can support test requests, result sharing, request tracking, notifications, and communication between medical teams.

Digital communication is important in healthcare because it helps reduce delays, improve access to information, and support faster decision-making. For clinical testing and diagnostics, timely communication can improve patient experience and operational efficiency.

A web portal can reduce test turnaround time by digitizing test requests, automating workflows, and giving staff faster access to results and status updates. This reduces paper-based processes and helps laboratories process requests more efficiently.

Going paperless helps healthcare organizations reduce manual work, improve data access, lower processing delays, and reduce the risk of lost or incomplete information. It also supports faster collaboration between clinics, labs, and medical professionals.

Automation testing is important for healthcare platforms because these systems often handle sensitive and time-critical information. Automated tests help improve release quality, reduce defects, and support faster production updates without compromising reliability.

Healthcare companies should use cloud-based portals when they need secure, scalable, and faster digital communication across clinics, labs, and specialists. They are especially useful for diagnostics, test tracking, result distribution, and multi-team collaboration.

A dashboard helps doctors and laboratory teams by showing requests, results, notifications, user information, and workflow status in one place. This improves visibility and makes it easier to monitor operations and respond quickly.

Healthcare process automation improves efficiency, reduces waiting times, increases laboratory throughput, and supports better service delivery. It helps teams spend less time on manual coordination and more time on patient care and clinical decision-making.
